The construction of “Skopje – Thessaloniki” railway had a great impact on the connection of the city of Veles with Europe and contributed to the rapid economic, trade, culture and sports development, as well as industrialization. The formation of the hunting association puts the city of Veles among the first cities to do so in the Republic of Macedonia.
Although the then authorities did not officially allow hunting associations to be legally established, people still went hunting in self-organized groups. Later, these self-organized groups formed a couple of hunting associations. The first hunters in Veles were the wealthiest citizens, their sons and the famous weapons repair masters. Over time, the number of hunters increased steadily, and so did the resistance of the then authorities to obtaining permits to weapons purchase. At that time, the right to own and buy weapons was initially enjoyed by the “confidential” citizens. At that time, not everyone could be a hunter.
During the existence of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, there were only about a dozen hunters in the city of Veles. After Bulgaria came to power during World War II, hunting was banned and put on hold. The number of hunters increased after 1948 when the first hunting association was formed, the Hunting Association “Golik”. After the sixties of the last century, after merging the hunting associations from Caska, Izvor and Bogomila, the Association got a new name – “Ruen”. According to the statements of the hunters at that time, the first premises of the Association was built on the location of the current City Art Salon by the hunters themselves. The association is still located there today and it has 750+ members.
According to the hunters at the time, the first president of the Association was Tode Brzakov, who is especially deserving for the development of the today hunting association and for the development of hunting in the region.
